I’m delighted to have started a new term at the Virginia Tech Language and Culture Institute in the Washington D. C. region. Most of my last-term students have returned, and a number of newcomers have just joined us. To all of them, welcome to Reading and Writing 350! There will be a lot to learn over the next eight weeks. For example, we move from paragraphs to essays. This is a crucial skill to acquire if you are interested in academic writing. Don’t panic! We will use effective materials and engaging activities to transition smoothly. As with any other skill, we learn to do it by doing it, so let’s write!
Enjoy this journey of discovery and growth of your writing. I’ll be with you every step of the way, so don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any questions. Also, take this opportunity to practice your reading skills and to get to know your classmates better by reading their posts and writing a comment on them. It’s fun!
Have a wonderful Spring II term.
Prof. Mulholland
