I am Hamdy Singary. In 2001, I graduated from the law school located in Erbil, the capital of Kurdistan.  My dream was  to be a lawyer. In that time it was not easy to study because of the civil war between the two main parties (PDK, PUK). I was lucky to do my studies and become a lawyer.

In 2004, I was luckier when I was accepted to be a one of the students who received a Fulbright Scholarship. It was a great opportunity for me to come to the United States and be a student in one of the best universities, which was the University of Arizona. I did my LLM in Human Rights, then transferred to a SJD, which is a Ph.D. degree in Nation Building, then I did the LLM in international Trade Law. It was my best time ever. The education was great and the people were wonderful.  Of course when I came, my English level was very low, so I started studying English first there, and then joined law school.

Since I graduated in 2010, I haven’t used my writing ability, so I forget most of it which I really regret. I decided to come back and study English again in order to rebuild my capacity of the English writing.  I asked many people about a good school in Virginia and the answer was Virginia Tech. Actually, I did visit many other schools before this, but I did not see them as the school I was looking for.

I became a student in Virginia Tech to study the English and I really like it. I think I will get what I am working for. I like the way of teaching the professor is using. The students are good and interested to learn, which makes the class enjoyable. I will do my best to receive as much as I could to develop my level in the writing.  I need this development because I am thinking of taking a Bar exam to be a licensed immigration lawyer in the USA.
